# Stunnel proxy

TimeLine E3 version 15 introduces a new way of securing communications between the client and server (including the new TimeLine Web modules) by making use of the [Stunnel](https://www.stunnel.org/) proxy. Stunnel is a proxy designed to add TLS encryption functionality to existing clients and servers without any changes in the programs' code.

Stunnel is integrated into the TimeLine E3 client and the TimeLine Server configurator. The following pages document how to setup this secure communication.
